In the Waters of the Past
The Jānis Akuraters Museum on Thursday, February 29, 2024, at 18.00, invites you to an event dedicated to Gunars Janovskis, titled 'In the Waters of the Past'. The museum will host two authors whose books tell about Janovskis: Osvalds Zebris, author of the novel 'Mežakaija', and Inguna Daukste-Silasproģe, the author of the monograph 'Voices Over the Sea'.
In the ambitious 26-book project 'I am', by the publishing house 'Dienas Grāmata', which includes 13 novels and 13 monographs about 13 Latvian literary classics, books about each of the 13 Latvian literary classics have already been released. Some are represented by a novel, others by a monograph, while there are also several for whom both dedicated books have been published. So far, both works about the respective author usually do not come out at the same time, but with a significant time interval, thus separately celebrating the opening celebrations of each book and also engaging in discussions with the authors about the process of creating the work and the Latvian literary classic to which the book is dedicated.
The series of works dedicated to Gunars Janovskis also came out with almost a year and a half difference. Osvalds Zebris' novel 'Mežakaija' reached readers in 2022, while Inguna Daukste-Silasproģe's monograph 'Voices Over the Sea' was released in September 2023. 'The February 29 meeting at the Jānis Akuraters Museum will be significant because for the first time the meeting will be with both the author of the monograph and the novel simultaneously. In one conversation, we will talk about the similarities and differences in both works,' says Aivars Eipurs, a specialist at the Jānis Akuraters Museum, about the event.
There will also be a book table from the publishing house at the event.
Entrance fee - EUR 2.00, for students, students, and pensioners - EUR 1.50.
The event will be photographed. Photos and videos will be published on internet resources and used in museum publicity events.
