"The most serious speeding violation recorded by a speed camera in Jelgava last year occurred on Miera Street: on September 1, a car was traveling along Miera Street at 111 kilometers per hour instead of the permitted 50, while on January 25, a driver was traveling along Dobeles Highway at 100 kilometers per hour instead of the permitted 50," says L. Kaļķe.
In 2020, stationary and mobile speed cameras on the A8 Riga–Jelgava–Lithuanian border national main road recorded 36,586 violations—28,570 by stationary speed cameras and 8,016 by mobile speed cameras. Fines totaling 1,114,737 euros were imposed on vehicle owners for exceeding the speed limit on the Jelgava Highway. The speed "record" recorded on the A8 main road last year was 172 kilometers per hour instead of the permitted 90. On April 29, a Mercedes Benz S560 4Matic Maybach was traveling along the highway at that speed. The second speed "record"—170 kilometers per hour instead of the permitted 90—was recorded on May 16, when a BMW 530 was traveling along the highway at that speed, while on November 26, a Porsche Taycan 4S sped along the highway at 169 kilometers per hour instead of the permitted 90.
It should be noted that last year, fines totaling 14,489,305 euros were imposed in Latvia as a whole for traffic violations recorded by speed cameras: 11,042,430 euros for violations detected by stationary speed cameras and 3,446,875 euros for violations detected by mobile speed cameras.
By mid-February, 11,685,615 euros of the total amount had been paid in fines.
