84 Liepāja residents want to become Liepāja ambassadors

On Monday, 18 February, applications closed for the campaign “Experience Liepāja!” launched by the Liepāja City Municipality to find Liepāja ambassadors. Interest among residents was high: a total of 84 applications were received over the course of two weeks, the Public Relations and Marketing Division of the Liepāja City Municipality Administration reported.

Liepāja residents of all ages and from a wide range of backgrounds would like to become ambassadors—including friendly families, outgoing young people, culture enthusiasts and connoisseurs, passionate athletes, older residents, and also people who have moved to our city from other countries.

The reasons given by residents varied, but the main motivation was a genuine desire to showcase Liepāja in its entirety and introduce city guests both to its wide range of cultural offerings and to its active leisure opportunities.

The people best able to show Liepāja to visitors are the residents themselves. Therefore, in the new tourism season, the city of Liepāja invites residents who are ready to introduce guests to the best leisure and entertainment opportunities in the city to get involved.

The work ahead will be divided into several stages. First, the applications will be reviewed. The most suitable candidates will then be invited to an in-person meeting to discuss their motivation and the reasons why they want to become Liepāja ambassadors and host guests. After the discussions, the candidates will be selected, so that the specific Liepāja ambassadors can be chosen by the second half of March. In early April, the campaign outside Liepāja is scheduled to begin, and applications from guests will be invited.

The Liepāja residents selected as ambassadors will be expected to introduce guests, over the course of three days, to the city’s wide range of leisure opportunities and show them the best things to do during a weekend in Liepāja. Together with tourism businesses, the city of Liepāja will provide guests with accommodation and dining options and cover admission fees to attractions or events.

During the summer and autumn seasons, the city of Liepāja will give selected participants a weekend experience in Liepāja in five categories: culture enthusiasts, active leisure and sports enthusiasts, a weekend for friends, a holiday for families with children, and leisure for young people.
