More than 150 experts visit Sigulda on World Architecture Day

On 3 October, World Architecture Day took place in Sigulda, during which more than 150 architects from across Latvia became acquainted with the region’s most significant architectural sites.

In recent years, the city of Sigulda and its infrastructure have undergone significant changes, focusing on energy-efficient and design solutions, transforming buildings inherited from the Soviet era and degraded areas into living spaces suitable for cultural and educational activities, while also creating infrastructure to meet the needs of entrepreneurs.

On this day, experts and professionals visited both renovated sites, such as the “Siguldas devons” cultural centre, Sigulda New Castle and its castle quarter, and Sigulda State Gymnasium, as well as unconventional historic heritage buildings—including the most modern cultural centre of the 1980s, which is still awaiting its next stage of development.

The International Union of Architects (UIA) celebrates World Architecture Day every year on the first Monday of October, honouring architecture worldwide; events and campaigns promoting architecture among the public are organised around the world on this day.
