On World Poetry Day, 21 March, people are invited to give the gift of poems
On 21 March—World Poetry Day—the Latvian National Commission for UNESCO invites everyone to participate in the international “Gift a Poem” campaign.
The aim of this campaign is to promote the reading of poetry and the exchange of ideas about it. The campaign is organised by the Zbigniew Herbert Foundation in Poland in cooperation with the Polish National Commission for UNESCO.
Those who participate in this campaign are invited to handwrite a work of their own composition or copy out a poem by a poet and give it to someone as a gift.
The event organisers invite participants to photograph, film or draw the proceedings—to capture them in any way and share them with others in order to encourage and inspire those interested to get involved. Photographs, text and/or video should preferably be posted on social media using the hashtags #uzdāvinidzejoli and #UNESCOstarptautiskāsdienas, and the Latvian National Commission for UNESCO should also be notified by writing to programmas@unesco.lv, so that the gift-giving of poems can be shared with the authors of the campaign idea in Poland.
