Local celebrities revel at an exclusive champagne celebration

On Thursday evening, 18 July, the annual urban picnic “L’elegante Pop-Up Picnic” took place in the courtyard of Riga Congress Hall, bringing together hundreds of visitors dressed in white. One of the central elements of the event this year was the premium champagne G.H. Mumm lounge area, where picnic guests could not only enjoy sparkling drinks and oysters, but also try their hand at the legendary sabrage activity, using a sword to remove the cork from a champagne bottle. A number of local celebrities also enthusiastically enjoyed the summery atmosphere in the G.H. Mumm area, indulging in an exclusive champagne tasting alongside the picnic activities.

The tasting was led by the experienced wine expert, friend of the G.H. Mumm champagne house and acclaimed best sommelier in Europe, Raimonds Tomsons, who introduced guests to three carefully selected G.H. Mumm varieties—Cordon Rouge, Brut Le Rose and Demi-Sec—paired with specially prepared snacks from the Mākonis restaurant, which highlighted the distinctive nuances of each champagne even more vividly. Inviting guests to take their time and enjoy the evening programme and the sunny weather, Raimonds Tomsons also shared the story of the G.H. Mumm brand, offering various valuable tips on enjoying champagne. At the end of the masterclass, everyone interested was invited to uncork a champagne bottle themselves using the elegant sabrage technique, making the celebration of enjoying and capturing the sparkling drink even more exciting.

The white pop-up picnic dinners began in 2015 with the aim of creating a special event that would motivate friends and family members to meet amid the fast pace of life, briefly forget the constant rush and enjoy the simple things that bring joy to everyone—unhurried conversations and togetherness, sharing a dinner that brings family and friends together in an unusual setting. This beautiful event once again became a highly anticipated summer tradition, featuring lavishly laid tables, energetic musical rhythms, white accents, as well as dancing and merriment until nightfall.
