Municipality signs cooperation agreement to provide a COVID-19 vaccination centre in Jēkabpils

At the extraordinary meeting of the Jēkabpils City Council on 6 April, the deputies decided to conclude a cooperation agreement with the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Latvia and the National Health Service on providing a COVID-19 vaccination centre in the city of Jēkabpils and reimbursing the related expenses.

The decision stipulates that SIA “Jēkabpils Regional Hospital” is instructed to purchase the necessary equipment for administering vaccinations at the Jēkabpils mass vaccination centre, while the Jēkabpils Sports Centre is to equip the vaccination centre with the necessary inventory and provide the premises. The expenses incurred are to be compiled and submitted to the Jēkabpils City Municipality.   

The cooperation agreement is necessary to ensure the operation of a large-scale COVID-19 vaccination centre (hereinafter – the Vaccination Centre) in the city of Jēkabpils from 1 April of this year until 31 August of this year, or until another period separately agreed upon by the ministry and the municipality.

Cabinet Regulation No. 360 of 9 June 2020, “Epidemiological Safety Measures for the Containment of the Spread of COVID-19 Infection”, stipulates that municipalities, in cooperation with the Ministry of Health and the National Health Service, disseminate up-to-date information on vaccination and promote residents’ willingness to get vaccinated, participate in organising the vaccination process in their administrative territory to ensure its effective implementation, participate in establishing vaccination facilities and ensuring their operation, taking into account the guidelines for vaccination facilities published on the National Health Service website.

As previously reported, one of the large vaccination centres in the country opened in Jēkabpils at the beginning of April. The vaccination centre, established in the Jēkabpils Sports Hall at 289B Brīvības Street, is easily accessible and safe for every resident of the city of Jēkabpils and the nearby municipalities.

All issues related to vaccine delivery and the organisation of the vaccination process are handled by the Ministry of Health and the National Health Service in cooperation with vaccination providers.
