THE MUNICIPALITY IS WORKING TO CREATE NEW JOBS IN THE CITY

The Daugavpils municipal government continues to create a business-friendly environment and promote the creation of new jobs in the city. One form of cooperation is leasing production buildings constructed by the municipality to entrepreneurs who, in turn, undertake to make significant investments. One such project is already being successfully implemented: in May this year, the building at 5 Mendeleyeva Street was commissioned, where the expanded production facility of SIA “Axon Cable” will soon begin operating. A similar, but even larger-scale project is now planned at 4k-2 Spāļu Street.

On 26 November, at an extraordinary meeting of the Finance Committee, councillors approved holding an auction for the lease rights to a newly constructed building intended for a metalworking facility. Several stable companies operate in this sector in Daugavpils and wish to expand their product range, but at present there are virtually no suitable premises in the city for the production of large-scale metal structures.

The approximately 6,435.3 m2 building is scheduled to be constructed and commissioned in the fourth quarter of 2022. According to the auction regulations, the lessee will be required to create at least 100 (one hundred) new jobs and invest at least EUR 1,000,000 (one million euros) in intangible assets and fixed assets.

Positive results are also being achieved through the improvement of industrial-zone infrastructure, which has been progressing very actively in recent years: entrepreneurs, including foreign investors, are showing increasing interest in the opportunities to establish new production facilities and expand existing ones here. For example, a new production facility will soon appear in the Gajoks industrial zone: the entrepreneurs themselves expressed a desire to purchase a plot of land from the municipality in order to build production premises there and create new jobs.

Many entrepreneurs also readily make use of the benefits provided by the Latgale Special Economic Zone: an increasing number of sustainable projects are being proposed in Daugavpils and its surrounding area, which will bring new and stable financial flows to the region.
