Thanks to the “Tyres with a Heart” donation programme, infants will not need to undergo diagnostic examinations abroad
On 10 October, the annual “Tyres with a Heart” campaign came to an end. As part of the campaign, Latakko and its partner, the Pirelli Key Point franchise network, donated a further EUR 10,803 to the Children’s Clinical University Hospital Foundation. It was previously reported that the hospital uses the donated funds to purchase equipment for diagnosing and treating childhood diseases: in 2017, a circular phototherapy lamp was purchased, while a capnograph is planned to be purchased in 2018. Some of the aforementioned equipment was previously unavailable in Latvia.
The donation will facilitate the treatment and diagnosis of more than 1,100 newborns each year
“Every year, more than 1,100 newborns undergo examinations at the Neonatology Clinic,” notes Liene Dambiņa, head of the Children’s Clinical University Hospital Foundation. “Thanks to the ‘Tyres with a Heart’ campaign, which is one of the longest-running donation campaigns for the treatment of children’s diseases, it will be possible to avoid medical examinations abroad in a number of cases, saving Latvian families the time and money that are so precious,” she adds.
The formal ceremony during which the Children’s Clinical University Hospital Foundation was presented with a cheque bearing the donated amount took place at the “Sunny Days Library”. Representatives of the hospital administration gave a presentation showing how donations from previous years had been spent.
Yevgeny Kopilkov, head of LATAKKO: “Every person’s task is to help those who are nearby, especially children.”
“We express our deepest gratitude to everyone participating in the programme: our valued customers, who purchase tyres and donate EUR 1.50 with every purchase; our partners from the Pirelli Key Point network; the doctors and specialists of the children’s hospital; and also the Latakko employees responsible for the organisational side of the ‘Tyres with a Heart’ programme,” says Yevgeny Kopilkov. “Every person’s task is to help those who are nearby, especially children. Next year, we have a unique opportunity to increase the total amount of donations to as much as EUR 100,000. We are committed to striving towards this goal, because together we can accomplish much more.”
