A new Rexona app dedicated to an active lifestyle presented in a springtime atmosphere
On Thursday afternoon, 11 April, the launch event of the Rexona brand’s “Move More—Live More!” campaign took place at the MyFitness “Matīss” sports club. During the event, attended by members of the media, bloggers, opinion leaders and the brand’s partners, the new Rexona 5000 Steps smartphone app was presented. Through various active challenges, it will encourage people to focus more on movement in their everyday lives. The campaign, which has just started in Latvia, will run for six months, with three inspiring active-lifestyle enthusiasts serving as its ambassadors: television personality and event host Lelde Ceriņa, promising luger and Olympian Ulla Zirne, and sports master, three-time Baltic champion in circuit racing Jānis Vanks.
During the event, held in a springtime atmosphere, its host and campaign ambassador Lelde Ceriņa presented the results of a recent study conducted by Rexona, revealing the exercise habits of Latvia’s residents. More than half, or 53%, of respondents aged 16 to 55 engage in sports or physical activities at least once a week. Most often, respondents said they go for longer walks, followed by exercising at home or visiting a gym, as well as cycling. Interestingly, most respondents indicated that they would like to engage in physical activities more often, but the main obstacles are limited time, fatigue, lack of energy or laziness, as well as a lack of motivation and company.
To motivate people to move more even during their hectic working days and encourage them to inspire one another, Rexona has developed the new 5000 Steps, or 5,000-step challenge app. It invites everyone to walk at least 5,000 steps a day, becoming more physically active, setting new goals and competing for valuable prizes. As Paula Elksne, Rexona’s brand manager in Latvia, emphasised later in the presentation, a person who walks at least 5,000 steps a day is no longer inactive. This is a distance that even relatively busy and less active people can cover simply by paying a little more attention to their everyday habits—for example, choosing the stairs instead of the lift or walking instead of using a car for their daily journeys.
“The Rexona team’s goal was to create an app—a social step counter—that would become everyone’s best partner in movement. In addition to its main function of counting the steps taken each day, the app also gives users the opportunity to participate in various exciting challenges. For example, the first Easter challenge will be launched in the app very soon, followed during the campaign by special ambassador challenges. Meanwhile, the major challenge—to walk the equivalent of going around the whole of Latvia in terms of step count—is already available in the app and will continue until the end of the campaign, when we will reward the most active participants. Android users can already download the Rexona 5000 Steps app from the Google Play Store, and it will be available to Apple smartphone owners very soon,” comments Paula Elksne, Rexona’s brand manager in Latvia.
The presentation continued with contributions from the ambassadors of the Rexona “Move More—Live More!” campaign: Lelde Ceriņa, Ulla Zirne and Jānis Vanks. Each shared an inspiring story about an active lifestyle, describing their journey towards an athletic daily routine, highlighting the important role of physical activity in their lives, outlining their personal achievements and challenges, and inspiring others to move more and live healthier lives. Although all three ambassadors lead active lives themselves, they are convinced that everyone can move more—and that it is possible to start with even a very small amount of physical activity, gradually increasing it and challenging oneself.
To make the event even more engaging and active, MyFitness trainers Marta Kešāne and Kristaps Ence got the attendees moving with an entertaining workout during its second part. They demonstrated a simple yet effective series of exercises that everyone can do both in a gym and at the office during free moments between everyday tasks, helping to move the body and feel more alert. Shortly after the exercise session, a photo contest was held, in which three presentation attendees won a special prize: T-shirts from the collaboration collection of Ullalaaa Clothing, the clothing brand created by Ulla Zirne. The collection was created in honour of the Rexona campaign and features the catchy slogan “Moving is so Ullalaaa”. During the campaign, limited-edition T-shirts will also be available for purchase through the Ullalaaa Clothing Instagram profile, inspiring people to move in style.
Rexona’s active-lifestyle inspiration campaign, “Move More—Live More!”, will run in Latvia and the neighbouring countries of Lithuania and Estonia from April until the end of September. As part of the campaign, everyone is invited to participate in the various challenges in the new 5000 Steps app, as well as sporting events organised in cooperation with MyFitness sports clubs and European Week of Sport #beactive.
