Swimming Is Permitted in Rēzekne, but Not Everywhere

Despite the whims of nature, summer will begin very soon, and with it the swimming season. On 10 May, specialists from the Latgale Control Division of the Public Health Department of the Health Inspectorate collected samples to determine the water quality in the lake, while specialists from the Institute of Food Safety, Animal Health and Environment “BIOR” determined the water quality in the river.

The test results show that the water at the official bathing site on Lake Kovšu complies with all microbiological indicators, and swimming is permitted there.

Given that a new promenade has appeared along the Rēzekne River and two bathing sites have been established in the river, water samples were also collected near the bridge on Stacijas Street and in the vicinity of Dzirnavu Street. According to the analysis results, the water quality in the vicinity of Stacijas Street does not meet the standard because the content of microorganisms harmful to human health (Escherichia coli—E. coli bacteria) is elevated. In the vicinity of Dzirnavu Street, however, the water complies with all microbiological indicators, and swimming is permitted in the river at this location.
