Traffic restrictions established in the Pierīga area during the Ķekava Cycling Marathon

The popular Ķekava Cycling Marathon will traditionally take place in the Pierīga area this coming Sunday, 29 July, bringing together Latvia’s most active cyclists throughout the day. To ensure the sports event proceeds efficiently and safely, the event organisers have established several significant traffic restrictions in Ķekava Municipality over the weekend of 28–29 July.

Stopping and parking will be prohibited on both sides of the road from 28.07.2018 at 12.00 until 29.07.2018 at 16.00:

·       on the section of Ziemeļu Street from the A5 highway to the turn-off to the Poultry Factory;

·       on Ķekava Sports Club Road, on the section from Gaismas Street to Ziemeļu Street;

·       on the section of Gaismas Street from Ķekava Sports Club Road to Rīgas Street;

Traffic will be completely closed on 29.07.2018 from 10.00 to 16.30 (except for vehicles with permits):

·       Ķekava Sports Club Road, on the section from Gaismas Street to the turn-off to the Poultry Factory;

Traffic will be completely closed on 29.07.2018 from 11.30 to 12.30:

·       the section of Ziemeļu Street from the A5 highway to the turn-off to the Poultry Factory;

·       the road alongside the Poultry Factory, on the section from Ziemeļu Street to the turn-off to the Sports Club;

Traffic will be partially closed on 29.07.2018 from 10.00 to 14.00:

·       Gaismas Street, on the section from Sports Club Road to Rīgas Street (A7);

On the following road sections, between 11.00 and 14.00 on 29.07.2018, the State Police and volunteers wearing bright green vests will regulate or restrict traffic, or close it if necessary:

·       Rīgas Street (A7), on the section from Gaismas Street to the Bauska Highway roundabout;

·       the Bauska Highway roundabout, on the section to the exit onto Highway E67 in the direction of Daugmale;

·       Highway E67, on the section from the Bauska Highway roundabout to the hydroelectric power plant roundabout;

·       Highway P85, on the section from the Riga HPP roundabout to the turn-off to Baldone (dirt road);

·       the dirt road, on the section from Highway P85 to Daugavas Street (Baldone);

·       Daugavas Street, on the section from the dirt road leading to Daugmale to Rīgas Street (Baldone);

·       Rīgas Street, on the section from Daugavas Street to Highway P89;

·       Highway P89, on the section from Rīgas Street (Baldone) to Highway P90;

·       Highway P90, on the section from P89 to the Riga HPP roundabout;

Exits from courtyards on the aforementioned road sections will be closed periodically.

The section of Ķekava Sports Club Road from Gaismas Street to the turn-off to the Poultry Factory will be completely closed to traffic on 29 July from 10.00 to 16.30, except for emergency vehicles. Where possible, residents living in the immediate vicinity will periodically be allowed to leave or enter residential areas.

Participant car parks will be provided on the following road sections:

·       on the section of Ziemeļu Street from the A7 highway to the turn-off to the Poultry Factory;

·       on the section of Gaismas Street from the A5 highway to the turn-off to Ķekava Sports Club.

The organisers of the Ķekava Cycling Marathon ask residents and visitors of the municipality to be understanding regarding the traffic restrictions and apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Registration for the Ķekava Cycling Marathon will be possible on the day of the race from 8.30 by completing a form at the registration tent. The entry fee is EUR 25 for the Public Race, EUR 15 for the Family Race and EUR 7 for the Children’s Ride for the youngest participants up to 12 years of age. The marathon organisers announce that, following changes to the event regulations, the 80-km Sport Race planned for this year has been cancelled.
