The Festive Flag-Making Campaign Has Successfully Concluded in Preiļi

From 1 November last year until 1 August this year, residents of Preiļi Municipality were invited to participate in the city’s festive decoration campaign by sewing their own unique festive flags to adorn our city during the celebrations.

Inese Anina, the decoration artist of the Preiļi Municipality Council, said that the campaign had concluded successfully, and that 740 flags had been sewn through the joint efforts of several dozen active residents of Preiļi Municipality who took part in the creative activity. I. Anina explained that the aim of the campaign was to give residents the opportunity to participate in decorating Raiņa Boulevard.  

Participants were free to choose the fabrics, colours and techniques used to make the flags; the only requirement was to observe the specified size. The submitted flags were crocheted, knitted, embroidered, printed, painted, drawn and knotted. On the Facebook social network, the artist presented the campaign in the form of a diary, where anyone interested can read stories about the people who submitted the flags and their wonderful creations.

The decoration artist thanked Natālija Rubīne, head of the Preiļi Association of Politically Repressed Persons “Likteņa ceļš”, for her voluntary work, together with the girls from the dance group “Dancari” and their mothers; Ņina Hmeļevska, Valija Samuilova, Digna Vilcāne, Vita Biezaite, Marija Briška, Anna Brūvere, Inta Belogrudova and Agnija Pastare; the Činguļi, Anina and Zukuļi families; doll artist Vladlena; the teams of the Preiļi Municipality Pensioners’ Association, Preiļi Main Library, “Mūsmājas” association, the Day Care Centre of the Welfare Administration, Preiļi Cultural Centre and “Pasaciņa” preschool educational institution; “Di Craft” studio; “Dzīpariņš” shop; “Bērnības zeme” brand; and “Moto&Metal Nester Custom” art gallery.

“I am delighted by the support of the people of Preiļi who took part in this campaign, and proud to live among people who get things done. We can all make mistakes, because the only person who never makes mistakes is the one who does nothing. Your support is like a strong wall behind which one can take shelter! Each of us can ask ourselves: what have you done for your city?” said Inese Anina as the campaign came to an end.

The completed flags have been sewn into strings and, since 6 August, have adorned Raiņa Boulevard in Preiļi. On behalf of the municipality, we thank everyone who devoted their time and effort to help make the city more colourful for its celebrations! The campaign is proof that together we can achieve great things!
