Preiļi Municipality Council joins the Latvian National Healthy Municipalities Network

In order to promote the implementation of the objectives set out in the “Public Health Guidelines for 2014–2020” in the field of health promotion and to encourage municipalities to engage in promoting the health of their residents, Preiļi Municipality will join the Latvian National Healthy Municipalities Network.

The aim of the Network is to facilitate the exchange of good practices, experience and ideas among municipalities; support municipalities and provide them with methodological assistance in addressing various public health and health promotion issues at the local level; and improve municipal employees’ knowledge of public health and health promotion issues, thereby supporting the development of health, well-being and equal opportunities at the regional level.  The Latvian National Healthy Municipalities Network was established by the Ministry of Health in cooperation with the Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, the Latvian Association of Local and Regional Governments, the World Health Organization Country Office in Latvia and the Faculty of Public Health of Rīga Stradiņš University.

Participation in the National Healthy Municipalities Network is voluntary and free of charge. It is an initiative open to all municipalities that wish to work in the field of health promotion, meet certain health promotion criteria and complete the application documents.

At the council meeting on 30 April, the deputies delegated responsibility for organising health promotion activities and events in the municipality and participating in the annual meetings of the National Healthy Municipalities Network to Inese Matisāne, project coordinator in the Development Division.
