A municipality-implemented project has been completed in Preiļi Municipality!

A municipality-implemented project to establish new free public Internet access points and improve existing ones has been completed in Preiļi Municipality

In November last year, the Preiļi Municipality Council and the State Regional Development Agency concluded an agreement on the implementation of European Regional Development Fund project No. 3DP/3.2.2.2.0/14/IPIA/VRAA/075, “Development of Public Internet Access Points in Preiļi Municipality”. The project created opportunities for residents to access electronic services and information provided by public administration institutions, the municipality and commercial companies. The project has now been implemented, and the responsible specialists are preparing the project reports.

Project manager Sanita Meļko reported that, as a result of the project, two public Internet access points with wireless Internet access zones and six public Internet access points with access to computer and office equipment have been established for the needs of the municipality’s residents and visitors.

The public Internet access points, which are also adapted for people with special needs, are now located in each territorial unit of Preiļi Municipality. In the city, they will henceforth be available in the Preiļi Municipality Council building, the Preiļi Municipality Culture Centre and the Preiļi Municipality Business Centre, while in the parishes they will be located in Pelēči Parish at Pelēči Primary School, in Aizkalne Parish at the Community Centre, and in Saunas Parish in the parish administration building.

Free wireless Internet and computer equipment with appropriate software are available at the public Internet access points, as well as a multifunctional device that enables information to be printed, scanned and copied on A3 and A4 sheets. The scanning service will be free of charge, while residents are encouraged to use their own paper for printing and copying.  As part of the project, wireless Internet access zones were also established in Līči, Preiļi Parish, in the square at 1 Jaunatnes Street, and in the centre of Preiļi.

The total cost of the project was EUR 33,341.85, including EUR 28,340.57 in European Regional Development Fund support, a state budget grant of EUR 1,000.26 and municipal co-financing of EUR 4,001.02.

Such support is provided for by the Cabinet of Ministers’ regulations “Regulations on the Supplement to the Operational Programme ‘Infrastructure and Services’ Activity 3.2.2.2 ‘Development of Public Internet Access Points’”, under which each municipality is allocated a specific support quota for project implementation. The quotas are calculated taking into account the number of territorial units and residents in each municipality, as well as the territorial development index.
