Pike Fry Released into Lake Pelēči in Preiļi Municipality

Two projects supported by the Fish Fund were implemented in Preiļi Municipality. Their aim is to preserve and protect fish resources in the water bodies of Preiļi Municipality and promote the replenishment of fish stocks.

One of the projects involved the propagation of fish in Lake Pelēči in Preiļi Municipality by releasing 8,000 pike fry into the lake. This is the fourth year that the Preiļi Municipality Council has implemented a project to replenish fish stocks in public water bodies. On 27 June, pike fry were released into Lake Pelēči in the presence of Ilmārs Ivdris, an inspector of the Preiļi Municipality Council, landowner Evita Piļščikova, and inspectors from the Daugavpils Regional Environmental Board of the State Environmental Service, who instructed municipal specialists in the details of fish resource protection measures. The total cost of the project was EUR 2,320. The pike fry were supplied by the “Rūja” fish farm.

In turn, to protect fish resources from illegal fishing, the municipality participated in the Fish Fund programme for the first time with the project “Purchase of Material and Technical Equipment for Fish Resource Protection Measures in the Water Bodies of Preiļi Municipality”. As part of this project, the municipality purchased an inflatable rubber boat, a boat motor and a boat trailer, which were placed at the disposal of the Preiļi Municipal Police so that it could take measures to prevent illegal fishing in the municipality’s water bodies.

Both projects were financed 100% by the Fish Fund.
