Creative Action Week radi!2018 invites you to the closing event “Create-Do”
On Friday, 19 October, the series of events of Creative Action Week radi!2018 will conclude with the inspirational seminar “Create-Do” at the Design Factory in Riga. The upcoming event will take place as part of the creative industries conference “New Realities. Creative Industries Forum”, and its aim is to break down the stereotypes and myths existing in society about mistakes, risk-taking and their potential consequences. During the seminar, a number of experienced personalities will share stories about the role of mistakes in their daily lives and openly discuss this topic. Everyone interested is invited to take part in the closing event of radi!2018.
Any apparent failure can serve as the basis for new successes, therefore, in the introductory part of the “Create-Do” seminar, comedian Edgars Bāliņš will give an inspiring account of the founding of the widely acclaimed Fuckup Nights Riga failure nights, their purpose and most notable insights. This will be followed by a story about the origins of the LAMPA Conversation Festival, its greatest failures and how they were overcome, shared by one of the festival’s founders, Egita Prāma. The event will conclude with a debate moderated by journalist Sandra Kropa, featuring Sandi Kondrāts, head of the medical technology start-up Anatomy Next, poet Sergejs Timofejevs, “Latvian Pride 2018” awardee and creator of the game “Anger Management” Līga Bērziņa, and Rona Bader, founder of the Danish company Heroic Sports, who will openly discuss the role of mistakes in their professional lives.
To mark Latvia’s centenary, the radi!2018 programme was specifically focused on engaging residents and aimed at the development of the entire country. Thus, this year, five regional centres of Latvia were selected as the venues for its central events, where, with the involvement of representatives from a wide range of sectors, professions and institutions, issues important to the cities were highlighted and solutions were generated in order to create a better, more orderly and more modern surrounding environment together. Over the summer, the radi!2018 team, together with local and international design-thinking experts, travelled to Daugavpils, Liepāja, Jelgava, Cēsis and Riga, inviting local residents to develop innovative and sustainable projects for the development of creative industries in various regions.
Since the end of April, radi!2018 has already held six interactive cross-sector seminars promoting entrepreneurship under its banner, aimed at highlighting and developing the potential of the cultural and creative industries not only in the capital but also beyond it. The upcoming “Create-Do” seminar will be the seventh and final event of the radi!2018 programme, and it will take place on Friday, 19 October, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. in Riga, at the Design Factory, 52D Slokas Street. Everyone interested who registers to attend the creative industries conference “New Realities. Creative Industries Forum” is invited to attend the seminar free of charge. Students of educational institutions, university students and aspiring entrepreneurs are especially welcome. More information and the registration form are available at: https://ej.uz/CreativeIndustries. Places are limited.
Creative Action Week radi!2018 has been held in Latvia for eight consecutive years, and its aim is to promote understanding and interest in the development and interaction of the creative and cultural sectors, actively involving residents in various events focused on creating, thinking and doing together. In 2018, Creative Action Week is being developed as a collection of seven events organised by the radi!2018 team, which together symbolically form a seven-day cycle, or week, over the course of several months.
radi!2018’s closing event has been created in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Latvia, the British Council in Latvia and the Latvian National Commission for UNESCO. News about Creative Action Week can be followed on the website www.radilatvija.lv, as well as on social media: Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. #radilv.
