President Raimonds Vējonis visits Cesvaine on a regional working visit

“Latvia needs stable and economically developed municipalities. Therefore, every municipality must continue strengthening its business environment and monitoring the various stages of the economic development cycle, which affects not only Latvia but all of Europe and the world,” President Raimonds Vējonis noted during a meeting with Vilnis Špats, Chair of the Cesvaine Municipality Council, council members, and the heads of municipal and state institutions.

The President’s regional working visit to Cesvaine Municipality took place on 8 February 2019. During the visit, the President visited Cesvaine Secondary School and met with its teachers and students. He toured the school building, classrooms, and their equipment. The secondary school students had prepared performances in honour of the President’s visit, showcasing their talents in singing, dancing, and active leisure pursuits. Everyone present had the opportunity to ask the President questions, which he was pleased to answer. Current issues and developments in education were discussed separately with the teachers. At the Cesvaine Children and Youth Centre, an informal discussion was held with the municipality’s most active young people about their opportunities to pursue education outside Cesvaine in the near future and return to their native municipality with the knowledge they had acquired, helping to create a stable and economically developed municipality.

Businesses in the dairy, woodworking, peat processing, and agricultural sectors are the most stable and currently the most successful in the municipality. To gain an understanding of the issues faced by all the entrepreneurs operating in Cesvaine Municipality and possible solutions, the President discussed current developments in business with local entrepreneurs. The discussion covered a wide range of topics of concern to businesses based in rural regions. In person, the President also familiarised himself with the work and achievements of the Cesvaine Brewery (SIA “Ducimus”) in establishing a new business in a rural area. President Raimonds Vējonis also visited one of the municipality’s largest companies, AS “Cesvaines piens”, learning about its operations and development.

During his visit to Cesvaine Palace, one of Latvia’s outstanding architectural monuments and historical cultural landmarks, the President learned about the progress of the site’s reconstruction and viewed the museum exhibition.

The President also familiarised himself with the operations of the Cesvaine radio and television station of the State Joint Stock Company Latvian Radio and Television Centre. It should be noted that on the day of the visit, 8 February, the weather conditions were sufficiently favourable for the national flag to be raised at the top of the Cesvaine television tower. At the Cesvaine station, he gained insight into its operations, development, and importance.

During the visit, the President visited the “Sudraba Vītoli” residential home of the Graši Children’s Village Foundation and met with the children living there. Since the children at Graši Children’s Village live in small houses where a family-like environment is created, this is not an ordinary children’s home. The President gained an insight into their everyday life and spoke with the residents of the house.
