The 15th Artists’ Plein Air “Flight of Thought” Takes Place in Rēzekne

May is blossoming and flourishing in Rēzekne, intoxicating us with its colours and scents, and, as fourteen years ago, this year too, for the fifteenth time, artists from all over Latvia are hurrying to capture this blossoming of nature – the latest Artists’ Plein Air “Flight of Thought” is taking place in Rēzekne from 24 to 30 May.

Each time, these beautiful works of art created during the plein air delight the residents of Rēzekne and the city’s visitors in the exhibition halls of the Latgale Culture and History Museum, both in solo exhibitions and in joint exhibitions by several artists, and, of course, they also travel far out into the wider world, carrying with them the enchanting image of Rēzekne. This year’s restrictions have prevented artists from abroad from gathering, but Latvia has enough high-level artists who were happy to travel to Rēzekne to capture its landscapes in their paintings. The plein air is attended by Rēzekne residents O. Zvejsalnieks and P. Ostapcevs; artists from Daugavpils A. Petkūne and M. Bērziņa; I. Neikens and V. Lemsters from Ādaži; students of the Art Academy of Latvia V. Mamajeva and A. Burlakova from Riga; Riga residents A. Neberkutins, A. Severetnikovs, V. Makavojs and N. Paksadze; as well as J. Plivda and A. Pīzelis from Preiļi. R. Muzis from Riga will join them at the weekend.

As we all know, this year circumstances prevent us from holding mass cultural events, including exhibitions. Nevertheless, this year too, the beautiful landscapes of Rēzekne and its surroundings, captured in the artists’ paintings, will be available to view in the near future – from 28 to 30 May, when the “Seven Hills 2021” Art and Music Festival will take place in our city, offering festival visitors a diversity of colours, sounds and emotions.
