"Tyres with a Heart": More than 100,000 euros donated to the Children’s Clinical University Hospital over 10 years
"A total of 101,450 euros was donated to the Children’s Clinical University Hospital over the past 10 years as part of the charity project "Tyres with a Heart" by Latakko, the Pirelli Key Point tyre centres, and the people of Latvia who purchased car tyres through the PKP network," comments Latakko CEO Jevgenijs Kopilkovs.
The donations collected over the past year, amounting to 12,265 euros, were ceremonially handed over to the hospital on 18 September at the Children’s Clinical University Hospital’s Sunny Days Library.
"We are pleased that in 2019, the year marking the 10th anniversary of the "Tyres with a Heart" project, we surpassed the 100,000-euro threshold and managed to purchase valuable medical equipment for children. This year, Latakko reached an agreement with the Children’s Hospital Foundation to support the equipment fleet of the “Home Parenteral Nutrition” programme." The donations collected in 2019 will be used to purchase Ambix Activ parenteral nutrition pumps together with carrying bags.
Without parenteral nutrition, many children in Latvia would not survive
There are currently eight children in Latvia who require parenteral nutrition—that is, the intravenous administration of a specially prepared medical solution; without parenteral nutrition, these children would not survive. Until now, parents had been provided with infusion pumps so that their children would not have to remain in hospital for extended periods. However, infusion pumps are not suitable for use at home because they are large and heavy, restrict family mobility, and cannot operate on battery power for long periods. Ambix Activ pumps will help solve this problem and save the lives of one or two children in Latvia each year.
"We are grateful to the doctors and specialists at the children’s hospital, Latakko employees, and the people of Latvia who continue to purchase tyres through the Pirelli Key Point network and donate 1.50 euros with every purchase as part of the "Tyres with a Heart" programme. This helps save the invaluable lives of children," says Jevgenijs Kopilkovs.
Jevgenijs notes that this year a decision was made to expand the project to the Lithuanian and Estonian markets, where assistance in the treatment of children will be provided in cooperation with local healthcare institutions, taking into account the experience gained in Latvia through the charity programme.
The charity project "Tyres with a Heart" has existed for 10 years. It is organised and supported by Latakko and partners from the Pirelli Key Point tyre-centre network.
