Approximately 100 new-design public transport stop shelters are planned to be installed in Riga by the end of the year, replacing the old shelters whose service life has expired.

The new public transport stop shelters are planned to feature a distinctive Riga identity and provide opportunities for the integration of smart technologies. In developing the procurement specifications, the design and functionality of public transport stop shelters in other countries and cities will also be analysed.

A working group established in the Riga Municipality by order of the Chair of the City Council has begun developing the technical specifications for the procurement procedure. The documentation required for the procurement is planned to be prepared and approved by July at the latest. The procurement procedure will be carried out by the Riga City Council’s Transport Department.

As the period for placing temporary-use structures expires, the outdoor advertising company “JCDecaux” plans to dismantle approximately 100 public transport stop shelters belonging to it throughout Riga this year. Understanding the needs of Riga residents, the municipality has asked the company to postpone the dismantling of the public transport stop shelters until the municipality has received the new stop shelters as a result of the procurement procedure.
