“Rīgas satiksme” begins usability testing of code tickets
“Rīgas satiksme” announces that, as it expands the options for purchasing and using public transport tickets, a defined group of users has begun usability testing of code tickets in order to test the usability of this new type of ticket under real-life conditions, including ticket activation on board a vehicle and inspection.
In order to test the functionality and use of code tickets, as well as to identify and eliminate possible technological errors, usability testing of code tickets under real-life conditions began this week. Initially, usability tests of code tickets will be conducted on bus route No. 22 and tram route No. 7, with the first tests carried out by “Rīgas satiksme” employees, as it is very important from the outset to verify how the code tickets work and how they are inspected. The first stage of usability testing is expected to last a couple of weeks. After the first stage, both the number of vehicles in which code-ticket testing is conducted and the group of testers will be expanded, thereby testing the usability of code tickets at different times and on different routes. Usability testing is planned to conclude at the end of May.
What is a code ticket?
A code ticket will be a new payment method on “Rīgas satiksme” public transport, allowing customers to pay for journeys online using a smartphone. The code ticket will operate in parallel with the existing e-ticket system. To use a code ticket, customers will need to install a mobile application on their smartphone. In this application, they will be able to purchase a single-journey ticket online and use it by activating it inside a public transport vehicle, where a unique QR-code identifier for each vehicle will be displayed. If an inspector boards the vehicle, the passenger will open the application, where the activated ticket will be displayed, and show it to the inspector.
Development of the code-ticket platform began at the end of 2020, and it is being created as an open system so that sales of such tickets can be provided by as wide a range of service providers (sellers) as possible.
