Preparing Facial and Body Skin for the Autumn Season
“During the summer, we usually do not undergo cosmetic procedures. First, we are taking a break; second, there are serious contraindications to several procedures because of increased ultraviolet radiation. Nevertheless, it would be useful to bear in mind that our skin ages faster precisely during the summer months.”
Ludmila Stavro-Freiberga, head of the Panacea Premium aesthetic medicine clinic in Riga, explains how best to prepare the skin for the autumn season.
“There are no special procedures for preparing the skin for the autumn season. If you see such claims online or read about them in magazines, remember: it is merely marketing. At the same time, if no skin-care procedures were performed during the summer and you do nothing for your skin, then you certainly should not book serious procedures as early as 1 September.
It would be better to begin by preparing the skin for the aggressive procedures you are planning for autumn or winter: establish a comprehensive skin-care routine at home to strengthen the protective functions of the skin barrier with corneotherapy products, which are suitable for any skin type and every age group.
Procedures and injections to hydrate the skin
Initially, I recommend opting for laser biorevitalisation using a cold laser. This procedure is suitable if the sun is still active. The skin is saturated with hyaluronic acid, nutrients and trace elements. A similar effect can be achieved through mesoporation. In this case, beneficial substances reach the deeper layers of the skin with the help of an electric current, rather than a laser.
To improve all the skin’s properties, platelet-rich plasma therapy (iPRF) can also be used—for hydration and to activate the skin’s restorative and regenerative processes with the help of the client’s own blood plasma. Microdermabrasion, a procedure for resurfacing the skin, is also an excellent preparation method before more aggressive procedures.
Gentle peels
In addition to the procedures already mentioned, light peels are highly beneficial before the autumn season: a mandelic acid peel for oily skin, a succinic acid peel or a lactic acid peel for dry skin. These peels will help you achieve a smooth texture and hydrated skin, and in September you will be able to undergo a retinol peel or a peel with 20%–40%–70% fruit acids without any problems. Only then should you proceed with any laser procedures.
None of the products and procedures mentioned have contraindications related to sun exposure. This optimal transition period between summer and aggressive autumn procedures will allow you to remain beautiful and desirable all year round. We wish you beauty and success!”
