Sherlock Holmes' Birthday

The celebration of Sherlock Holmes' birthday, originally scheduled for March 4th, has been postponed to March 18th due to unfavorable weather conditions. As meteorologists warn that an orange alert will be issued, the festivities are being delayed for the safety of the participants. But that only means one thing - the joy awaits us!

At 12:00, gathering will begin at the Latvian National Art Museum, where registration for the costume contest will take place until 1 PM. The main condition for participation is that the participants must dress up in the style of the characters from Arthur Conan Doyle's stories about Sherlock Holmes. The best costumes will be awarded in several categories.

Next, a procession will take place to Livu Square, where theatrical and musical performances, the awarding of the best costume characters, and other entertainment will occur. The duet "Pipes and Drums" and the group "Funcoolio" will perform at the event.

During the celebration, there will be a quiz, themed games, and a guided tour to the filming locations of Igor Maslennikov's film "Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson" (guided tours at 10:30 AM and 3:00 PM at the Latvian Radio building).

After being interrupted for a few years, the celebration is now back, supported by the British Embassy in Latvia. The first celebration in Riga took place in 2012, making Riga the first city to ceremoniously commemorate Sherlock Holmes' birthday. The event is regularly attended by tourists and foreign enthusiasts.
