"Siberian Haiku"
On January 12th, in the Main Hall of the Latvian Puppet Theater, Valters Silis will present the premiere of "Siberian Haiku", a performance that invites families with children and young people to explore the theme of deportations through paper animation techniques.
The graphic story "Siberian Haiku" by writer Jurga Vile and illustrator Lina Itagaki (Lithuania) (translated by Dace Meiere) is familiar to readers from the award-winning comic book of the same name, which depicts the deportation experience of a Lithuanian boy named Algis and his family. Although the subject matter is heavy and may raise concerns for some, we recommend attending this performance as it will help explain this event to children and young people in a comprehensible and engaging way.
The show can be seen on January 12th, 13th, and 14th, coinciding with the time of the Barricades, as well as on February 4th and 16th. On January 13th and 14th, from 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM, the audience is invited to participate in lighting memorial bonfires in the square near the theater, to honor the memory of those who, in various periods of Latvian history, have not compromised their ideals of freedom and inviolability in their thoughts and actions. The starting times of the performances on these days are at 2:00 PM and 5:00 PM, respectively, with bonfires scheduled between the two shows.
Starring: Rihards Zeleznev, Elina Bojarkina, Baiba Vanaga, Arturs Putnins, and Kristina Varsa.
