Centenary scholarships to be awarded to graduates throughout Latvia for the fourth consecutive year
The ambitious Centenary Scholarship project for Latvian secondary-school graduates was launched in anticipation of Latvia’s centenary. Every year, scholarships are awarded to the most outstanding graduates of Latvian general secondary education institutions who have distinguished themselves not only through their academic achievements, but also through active involvement in public life, participation in amateur arts and sports activities, and their contribution to the development of their educational institution.
This year, too, every general secondary education institution in Latvia had the opportunity to nominate one graduate of the current academic year to receive a Latvian Centenary Scholarship. This year, 342 school graduates throughout Latvia will receive a one-off scholarship of €500.
For the fourth consecutive year, the Centenary Scholarship has introduced us to young people who, with their knowledge and skills, determination and creativity, continue resolutely on their path towards their educational and career goals. Despite the challenges of the past year in the learning process and extracurricular activities, the work invested and the ability to adapt and find solutions invariably lead to success.
The achievements of these young people to date are recognised, and this financial support provided by the state will serve as a springboard for further success in life. Meanwhile, the professional achievements of these future specialists will make Latvia increasingly competitive.
According to the scholarship regulations, one student from the graduating classes of each general secondary education institution in Latvia may receive this scholarship. The institutions nominated and submitted candidates for the 2020/2021 academic year scholarships by 21 May of this year. The scholarships will be paid by 31 July.
The scholarship support programme is implemented by the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Education and Science, and Latvijas Loto Ltd. The €500 support for outstanding students is made possible by the residents of Latvia who took part in the Centenary Lottery organised by Latvijas Loto Ltd. The programme is planned to continue in the coming years as well.
