Finnish State Award for Translator Maima Grīnberga
The Finnish State Award for foreign translators of Finnish literature is awarded by the Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture, presented once a year. So far, it has been received by nearly fifty Finnish, Finnish-Swedish, and Sámi literature (epics and poetry, prose and drama, children's literature and comics) translators from around the world. The prize amount is 15,000 euros. The Finnish State Award has been awarded since 1975, and each year it is received by only one translator.
Maima Grīnberga also translates from the Estonian language and has received awards from Estonia as well, namely, the Estonian Order of the Cross of Terra Mariana, the Estonian Cultural Endowment Literature Sector Annual Award, and the Estonia-Latvia Translator Award.
