Aivars Šmaukstelis scores a brilliant victory in Serbia

Latvian strongman Aivars Šmaukstelis, despite strong competition, secured one of the most impressive victories of his sporting career on Saturday at the sixth round of the Champions League, held in Serbia.
Right at the start of the competition, Šmaukstelis showed his competitors that he was capable of battling shoulder to shoulder for a place on the podium by recording the best result in the truck pull harnessed event. The Latvian continued to perform successfully in the events that followed. He won the clock, or Conan’s wheel, event, handling just over 300 kg. In the log lift for repetitions (145 kg), he shared second and third place. Šmaukstelis also performed well in the remaining events—the crucifix (a total weight of 30 kilograms), the deadlift, and the farmer’s walk.
As a result, Šmaukstelis became the winner of the fifth round of the Champions League, leaving Martin Wildauer (Austria) in second place and Matjaž Belšak of Slovenia in third.
“When I went to Serbia, I was ready for anything! I am in good shape, and I am very pleased with the victory. This will provide motivation for further work in training, as well as mark the beginning of the journey towards the Latvian championship title and more intensive preparation for international competitions,” the athlete said after the event.
This season, Aivars Šmaukstelis has competed in two Champions League rounds and has won both of them.
