Assessment of the Sports Sector in Rēzekne
In February, the SKDS research centre conducted a survey of Rēzekne residents to find out their views, including their assessment of the quality of the sports sector. Most of the residents surveyed gave a positive assessment of the city’s sports development activities.
When assessing the municipality’s work to promote sports development, 89% of respondents were satisfied overall, while 5% expressed dissatisfaction. Satisfaction with the municipality’s work to promote sports development was expressed more often than average by respondents aged 18 to 24 and 55 to 63, while residents aged 25 to 34 assessed the work in this area more critically than average.
Nearly half (48%) of the Rēzekne residents surveyed indicated that they engaged in physical or sporting activities. Respondents who said that they did not engage in physical or sporting activities were asked to state the reason. The three most frequently mentioned obstacles to engaging in sport were health conditions (46%), lack of time (32%), and the fact that there was no need to do so (31%). Consequently, one of the municipality’s priorities in developing the city’s sports infrastructure is to organise campaigns to involve and inform residents of all age groups about a healthy lifestyle and sporting activities.
In response to more detailed questions about satisfaction with sports life in Rēzekne, it should be noted that satisfaction is particularly high with the venues for sporting events (84% satisfied), the variety of sports (83% satisfied), the distance to and transport connections with sporting event venues (82% satisfied), as well as safety and order at sporting events (80% satisfied). Satisfaction is lower with the standard of sporting events (78% satisfied) and the organisational quality of sporting events (75% satisfied).
When assessing satisfaction with sports infrastructure, facilities and opportunities for children to engage in sport, 89% of respondents were satisfied with the opportunities for children to participate in sport in Rēzekne, 83% were satisfied with the availability of sports infrastructure in Rēzekne (sports grounds, exercise equipment, access to sports facilities, etc.), and 83% were also satisfied with the quality and technical provision of sports facilities.
In March and February, the SKDS research centre conducted a sociological survey of Rēzekne residents, during which 500 people from Rēzekne were interviewed. The aim of the survey was to find out residents’ views on various issues concerning life in the city, including the municipality’s work, the city’s development, travel habits, sport, culture, health and other topics.
To make the data obtained from the survey easier to understand, it will gradually be published in an accessible format on the municipality’s official social media profiles, on the www.rezekne.lv portal, and in the information publication “Rēzeknes Vēstnesis”. The data submitted by SKDS are currently being analysed by the municipality and will be available in full in May.
