DAUGAVPILS EDUCATORS HONOURED AT A CEREMONIAL EVENT

On 5 October, a ceremonial event dedicated to World Teachers’ Day, “The Teacher – Conqueror of Challenges”, was held at the Daugavpils Palace of Culture.

 A. Elksniņš, Chair of the Daugavpils City Council, addressed the educators, expressing his sincere admiration and respect for them. Aleksejs Vasiļjevs, First Deputy Chair of the City Council, also joined in offering words of congratulations.

“The teaching profession has always been regarded not only as one of the most important, but also as the noblest. As miracle workers, you connect the past and the future by sharing the knowledge humanity has accumulated over thousands of years, gathering all wisdom in the present and ensuring the possibility of the future’s existence. Protecting people who know how to pass on knowledge, appreciating them and treating them with due respect is the primary task of any state. The events of recent months clearly demonstrated that you are true fighters! Teachers who speak both Latvian and Russian, teach mathematics or English, and educate both 17-year-old young people and 3-year-old toddlers have shown how important it is to be able to unite. Our sincerest gratitude and respect for your work, endurance and dedication to your profession! We will strive to be students worthy of you! I sincerely wish you peace and light, love and joy in life,” said A. Elksniņš.

During the event, educators who had dealt most successfully with various  challenges during the previous school year were honoured. The “The Teacher – Conqueror of Challenges” award was presented to 45 employees of preschool educational institutions and schools who are true masters of their profession.

As is traditional, the new educators who joined the Daugavpils school and kindergarten communities in the new school year were welcomed. This year, there are 28 such specialists—the largest number of new teachers in our educational institutions in recent years.

This year, too, the Education Department organised the “Daugavpils Young Teacher 2022” competition. Young educators who had been working at an educational institution for between 1 and 5 years and who took pride in their profession and enhanced its prestige in society were invited to participate. A total of 13 participants entered the “Daugavpils Young Teacher 2022” competition, while the main prize was awarded to Elīza Kabakova, a teacher at Daugavpils State Gymnasium.
