The “Riga Sports Night” Active Recreation and Sports Event to Be Held for the Seventh Consecutive Year
In just one month, on 9 September, from 16:00 until midnight, Riga will host the now traditional active recreation and sports event “Riga Sports Night”. This year, the event organisers have changed the venue – the main gathering places will be Town Hall Square, the square by the Museum of the Occupation and the 11 November Embankment.
“Riga Sports Night” will open at 16:00. Every Riga resident and visitor to the city will have the opportunity to learn about new developments and current trends in healthy living, as well as take part in various sporting challenges and exciting competitions, guaranteeing recreation and fun activities for all tastes, interests and age groups. The “Sports Expo” zone, the “Live Healthy” zone and a children’s activity zone will be available. For the first time as part of “Riga Sports Night”, drone agility races will take place in the square by the Museum of the Occupation, developing into an exciting light show in the evening. Meanwhile, Town Hall Square will host the superfinal of the “Betsafe Latvian Strongman Championship”, which will determine the strongest man of 2017.
Latvian Railways’ “Hear, See, Live” safety zone will also be set up, where visitors will be able to test their reaction speed using a special sound simulator. At the “LDz Family Sports Trail”, everyone will receive information about safety near railway tracks. The youngest participants will also be able to enjoy “Little Strongman’s Adventures”.
“Riga Sports Night” will end at midnight, when the organisers of “Nike Riga Run” take over the baton from the day spent in a sporting spirit. At 22:00, near Akmens Bridge , they will be waiting at the start line for runners in the 5 km distance.
The “Riga Sports Night” website www.sportanakts.lv provides up-to-date information about all activities planned for the event.
