Installation of electric bus charging equipment begins
The installation of electric bus charging equipment has begun as part of the municipal SIA Ventspils reiss project “Developing Environmentally Friendly Public Transport Infrastructure in Ventspils (eBuss),” and is being carried out by the joint venture Universals Electrify.
Construction of the fast-charging stations for electric buses has been completed, and this week the installation of the charging station equipment began in the city of Ventspils, at the terminal stops of bus route No. 22, “Inženieru Street–Celtnieku Street.”
As part of the project, unique charging stations for electric buses will be established, where buses will be charged within a few minutes while passengers are boarding. The buses will be charged automatically using pantograph-type charging equipment, without the driver having to leave the bus. Ventspils is the first city in the Baltic States to have this type of electric bus charging station.
A total of three pantograph charging systems will be installed in the city—one at 4 Celtnieku Street and two at 87 Inženieru Street. The equipment is being installed by representatives of the manufacturer MEDCOM in cooperation with SIA CarsAuto. During the construction work, the bus stops remain accessible to passengers, and the construction area is fenced off.
The equipment is being installed as part of the project “Developing Environmentally Friendly Public Transport Infrastructure in Ventspils (eBuss)” (No. 4.5.1.2/17/I/004).
