Ministry of Justice Organises Collective Covid-19 Vaccination for the Justice Sector
Today, 12 May, the Ministry of Justice is launching collective Covid-19 vaccination for the justice sector. Over a three-day period, from 12 to 14 May, approximately 1,000 employees from across the justice sector are expected to receive the vaccine, including employees of the Ministry of Justice; the Prison Administration; the Register of Enterprises of the Republic of Latvia; the Patent Office; the Insolvency Control Service; the State Probation Service; the State Land Service; the Latvian Language Agency; the State Bureau of Forensic Examinations; the Court Administration; the Legal Aid Administration; the Administration of the Maintenance Guarantee Fund; the state limited liability company Latvijas Vēstnesis; the limited liability company Tiesu namu aģentūra; the Constitutional Court; representatives of the liberal legal professions (sworn notaries and employees of their offices, sworn advocates and employees of their offices, sworn bailiffs and employees of their offices); the Riga Regional Court, as well as employees of the institutions located in the building complex—the State Chancellery; the Cross-Sectoral Coordination Centre; and the Office of the Prime Minister.
State Secretary of the Ministry of Justice R. Kronbergs: “Although the public administration is currently working remotely wherever possible, thereby minimising the risk of infection, it must nevertheless be remembered that there are many employees in the justice sector for whom remote work is not possible at all or is possible only partially. Moreover, every one of us faces the risk of contracting Covid-19, whether within the family or in public places. At the same time, it is important for residents to receive justice-sector services within the time limits prescribed by law or, now, under Covid-19 conditions, within the shortest possible time. That is precisely why the Ministry of Justice considers it necessary to do everything possible both to remind justice-sector employees of the importance of vaccination and to ensure that employees have real opportunities to receive the vaccine at a convenient time. The advantage of collective vaccination is that the process can be coordinated more precisely and responsibly—we are ready at any time to find a new appointment for an employee during these three days if they notify us that they cannot attend, and to invite someone else to come at the time reserved for them. We have devoted additional human resources to ensuring advance registration and coordinating the vaccination process over the coming days. We believe that everyone must invest and mobilise their resources to increase the pace of vaccination in Latvia and facilitate the fastest possible return to normal daily life without Covid-19 restrictions.”
Vaccination is being provided by the healthcare institution Veselības centru apvienība “Dzelzceļa”. Vaccination will take place in the Red Hall of the Ministry of Justice, with strict compliance with all epidemiological safety requirements.
Additional information:
As previously reported, as of 3 May, every resident of Latvia can receive a Covid-19 vaccine. Accordingly, companies in all other sectors, including sectors that come into contact with large numbers of residents on a daily basis, employees of export-oriented companies of importance to the national economy, and employees of other companies may be vaccinated on the basis of information submitted by their employers to the selected vaccination provider.
In addition, vaccination has already begun for justice-sector employees who provide critically important services in person.
