Representatives of the Australian notariat visit the Ministry of Justice

On 22 September, representatives of the Australian notariat arrived in Latvia to meet with the
Minister for Justice and Member of the Cabinet, Jānis Bordāns, Parliamentary
Secretary of the Ministry of Justice Ilona Kronberga, and representatives of the Civil
Registry Department, the International Cooperation Department and the European Affairs Department. During the meeting,
the guests were introduced to the Ministry of Justice’s international cooperation and
cases involving the resolution of international issues, as well as the ministry’s history,
functions and cooperation with the Council of Sworn Notaries of Latvia.
The representatives of the Australian notariat praised the cooperation to date between the Ministry of Justice and the
Council of Sworn Notaries of Latvia, as well as Latvia’s substantial progress
in the digitisation of notarial procedures and work organisation.
During the meeting, the guests also emphasised the need to develop closer cooperation
between the notariats of the two countries; therefore, as part of the visit to Latvia, a cooperation
agreement was concluded between the notarial institutions of Australia and Latvia.
During their experience-sharing visit, the representatives of the Australian notariat learned about Latvia’s
progress in the digitisation of notarial services, professional standards, the legal framework and
practice.
