The Three Biggest Events in Jelgava in 2022
Residents and visitors are invited to celebrate Jelgava’s 753rd birthday, which will take place from 25 to 27 May and feature events for the whole family, as well as an extensive cultural and entertainment programme. Popular Latvian musicians will perform at three different locations in the city—the Zemgale Olympic Centre, Duke Jacob’s Square and Victory Park.
The festival will traditionally open on Friday, 25 May at 18.00 with the City Festival Parade. The Jelgava festival parade is a moment of patriotism, pride and joy not only for the participants, but also for the spectators. Every resident is part of this city, which is why the festival motto is “We Are Jelgava!”. The parade will proceed from Oskars Kalpaks Street along Lielā, Victory and Krišjānis Barons streets, ending at the Jelgava Culture House.PLANT DAYS IN JELGAVA
Every spring, the best gardeners gather in Jelgava to take part in Plant Days. At Plant Days, Latvian plant growers, collectors and garden-supplies vendors sell planting material grown in Latvia, decorative garden elements, soil enhancers and garden tools, as well as provide professional advice, while local artists create a pleasant festive atmosphere.
EASTER WALK
At Easter, residents of Jelgava and visitors to the city welcome the sun and spring in Jelgava Palace Park during the “Easter Walk”, searching for the Easter Bunny’s hidden eggs, making music and enjoying themselves together in various games and activities for young and old alike: egg rolling, drawing on asphalt and ceramic dishes, pot smashing and tossing eggs into a basket.
