Three Saldus Municipality Institutions Take Part in an Energy-Saving Competition

At the beginning of 2019, three municipal institutions embarked on a twelve-month energy-saving competition במסגרת the COMPETE4SECAP project (Grant Agreement No. 754162). The main objective of the competition is to achieve savings in heat and electricity consumption through minor behavioural changes, without reducing comfort levels in municipal buildings. 

Employees of 15 municipal buildings from four Latvian municipalities—Bauska, Ķegums, Tukums and Saldus—are taking part in the competition. 

Saldus Municipality is represented by: 

• “Sienāzītis” Preschool Educational Institution, 10 Celtnieku Street, Saldus, Saldus Municipality; 
• The Saldus Parish Administration and Culture Centre, 15/17 Vienības Street, Druva, Saldus Parish, Saldus Municipality; 
• The “Pagastnams” building of the Zirņi Parish Administration, Zirņi, Zirņi Parish, Saldus Municipality. 

The first training session for the building energy teams took place at the beginning of January. It covered indoor climate—including room temperature, relative humidity and air movement—as well as indoor air quality. To enable objective monitoring of the indoor climate, each building was provided with measuring instruments for use: a CO2 data logger, an energy-consumption meter and a thermometer. 

In addition to the ongoing building energy-saving competition, an energy management system is being introduced in Saldus Municipality במסגרת the project. Its objective is to ensure a systematic approach to the continuous improvement of energy performance, including energy efficiency, energy production and consumption.
