The replacement of light fixtures will begin soon on three streets in Preiļi!

On 18 May this year, the Preiļi Municipality Council concluded an agreement with the Environmental Investment Fund and the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development for the implementation of project No. KPFI-13.3/24, “Improving the Energy Efficiency of Public Area Lighting in Preiļi Municipality.”

Zigmārs Erts, Head of the Development Department of the Preiļi Municipality Council, said that the total project costs amounted to EUR 204,171.54, while the eligible project costs amounted to EUR 195,639.83.  Climate Change Financial Instrument funding accounts for 64% of the eligible costs, amounting to EUR 125,209.50.

The project envisages improving the energy efficiency of lighting in public areas of the city of Preiļi, thereby promoting a reduction in electricity consumption and carbon dioxide emissions. The replacement of light fixtures and old poles is planned on Raiņa Boulevard, Kooperatīva Street and Liepu Street, from the park to the administrative building of SIA “Preiļu saimnieks”.

On Raiņa Boulevard, 18 mercury-vapour light fixtures are to be replaced with LED fixtures; on Kooperatīva Street, 25 mercury-vapour light fixtures will be replaced with LED fixtures, while on Liepu Street the project provides for replacing mercury-vapour light fixtures with 21 LED fixtures.

Every year, lighting is installed or reconstructed on individual streets in the city of Preiļi; however, the limited scale of the investments made is not sufficient to significantly improve the city’s overall lighting system. Only recently reconstructed sites can be considered to have fully satisfactory lighting.

The old light fixtures and poles are outdated and energy-inefficient, while an analysis of the lighting equipment market in recent years indicates that demand for increasingly energy-efficient light fixtures, which provide a comfortable and safe environment, is growing.
