Work Begins on Organising the City Festival

On 5 February, the first meeting of the working group for organising the City Festival, which will take place from 7 to 9 June this year, was held at Daugavpils City Council. Specialists from the Cultural Administration presented the most important details concerning the festival, but substantial work still lies ahead to prepare a detailed programme of events.
Unlike in previous years, separate celebrations will not be held in the city’s neighbourhoods this year; however, sporting activities are still planned. The idea of holding music concerts in Daugavpils churches on the weekdays preceding the festive weekend is also being considered. Dialogue is likewise under way with representatives of aviation sports regarding an aircraft air show and parachuting competitions in landing accuracy.
The time of the Festival Parade will be changed slightly—to 14:00—while a spectacular fireworks display is planned, as usual, for 23:00. The first day of the festival, 7 June, will be devoted to creative energy and will conclude with an Art Night at Daugavpils Fortress. The main events of the City Festival are planned for Saturday, while Sunday will be reserved for various sporting competitions and demonstrations. The festival will conclude with a theatrical dance performance in Vienības Square.
