The State Police urges residents to remain vigilant and not leave their vehicles easily accessible to thieves. Car owners often leave personal belongings in visible places inside their vehicles, which can encourage a thief to break a car window or damage the vehicle in some other way in order to gain entry. The items most commonly stolen include mobile phones, other electronic devices, clothing, sunglasses, keys, as well as food products, musical instruments, perfumes, etc. In such cases, the broken car window often causes greater losses than the stolen items; therefore, to avoid tempting a thief, it is important not to leave anything visible inside the car.

!!! To protect your vehicle from thieves, we urge car owners to follow these important tips:

  • Park your vehicle in a safe place;
  • Always lock it;
  • Equip your vehicle with an alarm system;
  • Do not leave valuables in the vehicle – If a thief sees valuable items inside the car, such as a bag, wallet or phone, they will be even more tempted to break into it. Therefore, before leaving your car, always make sure that you have not left any valuables inside.
  • Do not remain indifferent! If you see strangers loitering near a vehicle, in a car park or in an isolated place, who are clearly not the vehicle’s owners, and their intentions give reasonable cause for concern that they may be attempting to commit a theft, immediately report it to the police by calling 110. If possible, also inform the vehicle owner about the activity of the strangers.
