Until 1 December, the Riga International Short Film Festival 2ANNAS is inviting filmmakers to submit films of various genres
and short and medium-length films to the International Short Film Competition, the Baltic Short Film Competition,
the International Medium-Length Film Competition and the International Children’s and Youth Competition.
As usual, the festival is looking for directors and films that push the technical and artistic
boundaries in their work and seek new forms of expression in contemporary cinema. Filmmakers from the Baltic countries
are especially encouraged to submit their work: submission is free for representatives of these countries, and, in cooperation with the company “BBRental”,
the winners of this competition will receive a valuable prize to support their further creative work. All films will compete for the main prize
— the “Golden Anna” statuette —, while the winners of the Baltic Short Film Competition and other categories, including the best
animation and best documentary short films, will receive plaster “Annas”. The films will be judged by an international jury, while
the main judges in the children’s and youth short film category will be young cinema enthusiasts.
2ANNAS, Latvia’s leading short film festival, will take place for the 27th time in 2023. “This is a great opportunity for filmmakers,
producers, film studios, students and enthusiasts not only to showcase their work from the past two years,
but also to jointly create a platform for creative growth, discuss matters with industry representatives and establish new
contacts with professionals from Europe and around the world, meeting both at film screenings and industry days, as well as
in an informal atmosphere at the festival’s various events and parties,” say the festival organisers.
As is traditional, the festival also organises themed out-of-competition programmes. The 2023 focus programme will be
“Body and Flesh”. The festival team and invited curators plan to examine the physical boundaries of the human body,
as well as such a relevant contemporary theme as the body and political power.
