The big spring cleanup begins in Ventspils.

The city cleanup began as early as last weekend. Every day, two specialized municipal vehicles equipped with vacuum systems clean Ventspils streets of sand and other dirt accumulated during the winter season. Meanwhile, the street cleaners of PSIA “Ventspils labiekārtošanas kombināts” are removing the remaining sand-and-salt mixture from the sidewalks.
Given the distinctly wintry weather conditions, the safe condition of streets, cycle paths, and sidewalks was maintained by spreading road salt and a sand-and-salt mixture. As the winter season draws to a close and the snow melts, the surfaces of streets and sidewalks are visually unattractive and grey. To remedy this, PSIA “Ventspils labiekārtošanas kombināts” has begun cleaning the streets, primarily using municipal street-cleaning equipment fitted with a dust vacuum collection system. This equipment lifts dirt regardless of the type and contours of the surface without creating a cloud of dust during the process. The layer of sand on the sidewalks is swept up and collected manually.
