As part of the tax reform implemented last year, progressive taxation has been introduced into Latvia’s tax policy. This means that, since 2018, personal income tax rates (20% or 23%) and the amount of the non-taxable minimum have depended on each individual’s total income. If a person’s income varied during 2018, a situation may arise this year in which the taxes paid during the year were not of the appropriate amount, and this difference must be paid into the state budget this year.

To explain these changes to residents, we invite everyone to attend the State Revenue Service’s free seminars, “How and Why to Submit an Annual Income Declaration?”.

A seminar will also be held in Balvi on 21 February at 10:00 a.m. at 46A Brīvības Street.

At the seminar, tax specialists from the State Revenue Service will explain the following matters:

  • Why is it important for everyone to submit an annual income declaration this year?
  • Why may young mothers, students, unemployed persons and other groups of people incur a tax debt?
  • What should be done if a tax debt has arisen?
  • For which types of expenses and what amount of tax refund can be received for eligible expenses incurred in 2018?
  • How can receipts be submitted using the “Eligible Expenses” mobile application?

Registration for the seminar is required by calling: 67122801

In case of questions or uncertainties, residents can call the State Revenue Service Consultation Hotline at 67120000, visit any State Revenue Service customer service centre, or submit questions in writing in the Contacts section of the State Revenue Service website.
