SRS customs officials uncover 2,880 litres of vodka in a lorry
During inspections at the Port of Ventspils, officials of the Customs Administration of the State Revenue Service (SRS) prevented the illegal movement of 2,880 litres of vodka. The alcoholic beverage was concealed in a lorry carrying a load of metal structures.
Yesterday, 5 May, while inspecting a lorry registered in Lithuania before it boarded the ferry operating from Ventspils to the Swedish city of Nynäshamn, customs officials discovered that the cargo contained goods not listed in the documents—alcoholic beverages. According to the accompanying documents, the cargo consisted of metal structures. It was intended to be delivered to Norway.
During the in-depth inspection, customs officials found boxes in the front section of the trailer containing alcoholic beverages in three-litre Tetra Pak packages without excise tax stamps. As a result of the inspection, 2,880 litres of “JELCIN VODKA” were seized.
Having identified signs of a criminal offence during the customs inspection, the case materials were forwarded to the SRS Tax and Customs Police Administration for a decision on whether to initiate criminal proceedings.
