VIEN ZIV ZUP IN VENTSPILS
The association “Kūrava” – the Kurzeme Cultural Heritage Centre – has chosen the Seaside Open-Air Museum as the setting for recording the stories of Ventspils residents Ārija Klēvere and Aija Kaminska. These stories will be included in the film of the 16th Kurzeme Storytellers’ Festival “Ziv zup” to showcase various examples of the dialects spoken in the Ventspils area. We invite you to attend the online festival on the Kuldīga Municipality website on 24 April.
The Kurzeme Storytellers’ Festival “Ziv zup” is the oldest storytellers’ festival in Latvia. It began in 2007 as part of the European Union education programme “Grundtvig 2” project “Developing Adults’ Storytelling Skills – A European Perspective”. The festival is organised by the association “Kūrava” – the Kurzeme Cultural Heritage Centre. Thanks to the great enthusiasm of the festival organisers and participants, the idea of storytelling as a democratic skill has been maintained and developed. Its primary setting is small communities that share their stories and the experiences contained in them. Thanks to “Ziv zup”, a network of storytellers’ festivals and activities has been established, now covering all of Latvia’s regions and also welcoming special guests from abroad. The festival has been supported by: the Kuldīga City Council, the Kuldīga Municipality Children and Youth Centre, the State Culture Capital Foundation, and others.
