One
From October 7, 2023 to spring 2024, the exhibition 'One' can be seen at the Rainis and Aspazija House (30 Baznīcas Street, Riga) and Ojārs Vācietis Museum (19 Ojāra Vācieša Street, Riga). It explores the similarities and points of contact between the two poets.
'If Rainis had managed to live even 100 out of the envisioned 300 years, he would have probably met Ojārs Vācietis. However, Rainis passed away in 1929, while Vācietis was born in 1933. They were great poets and complex personalities who had the power to influence both literature and their time,' says Solvita Lapiņa, one of the creators of the exhibition and a specialist at the Rainis and Aspazija House.
Created to mark the 158th birthday of Rainis and the 90th birthday of Vācietis, the exhibition 'One' at both museums delves into the poets' sense of loneliness, their relationship with authority, challenges, and life partners. Each museum focuses on only one personality: Rainis at the Rainis and Aspazija House, and Vācietis at the Ojārs Vācietis Museum. However, by visiting both parts of the exhibition, one can understand the extent of their similarities.
The memorial environments of both museums are enhanced with previously less exhibited items, while Jēkabs Nīmanis' sound paintings 'showcase' the poetry of Rainis and Vācietis through the performances of actors Jānis Kroņs and Ivars Krasts.
To view the exhibition at both museums, we offer a combined 24-hour ticket for visiting both museums. The ticket prices are as follows: adults - €3.00, students, seniors - €1.50.
Exhibition creators: specialists from the Rainis and Aspazija House and Ojārs Vācietis Museum; artists: Liene Pavlovska, Artis Tauriņš; composer: Jēkabs Nīmanis.
The exhibition was made possible with the financial support of the Ministry of Culture.
