Church Hill Add an Object
The Church Hill in Daugavpils is located not in the city center, but in Jaunbūve - a district of the city that was established in 1865, when the construction plan for the then Dinaburg was approved. Thanks to the complex of sacred buildings, this district was named Church Hill. Church Hill is a unique place in Daugavpils, where all four main Latgale denominations' churches are represented in a relatively small area, forming the characteristic panorama of Daugavpils. The churches not only became the spiritual center of Jaunbūve, but also the architectural dominant of the district. Each denomination's church brings its own distinctive features to the city's panorama with a variety of architectural styles - from Baroque and Neo-Gothic to Byzantine style. By visiting the churches, the congregations consciously or unconsciously competed with each other in expressing the expressive forms and splendor of their design.
