Cesis Christ Transfiguration Orthodox Church is located in the northeastern part of Pils Park. The idea to build a church for the Latvian congregation arose in the 14th century when a Latvian settlement began to form in the vicinity of the German knights' Cesis Castle, and Cesis Cathedral - St. John's Church - could no longer accommodate all worshippers.
