The Bust of Poet Andrejs Pumpurs Add an Object
Poet A. Pumpurs (1841-1902) based onfolk legends created the epic poem 'Lāčplēsis' (1888), which tells the story ofthe legendary national hero Lāčplēsis (13th century), who fought against foreignoppressors. In 1896, A. Pumpurs settled in Daugavpils. There, heworked as a military intendant. A. Pumpurs became part of the Latvianintellectual circle. Unfortunately, the time in Daugavpils was fateful in his life: hisdaughter and son died here, and the poet himself fell ill with an incurable disease. In Daugavpils, a street and a square in the city center were named after Pumpurs,where the bust of the poet is located (sculptor I. Krūmiņa).
