Pastariņa Museum Add an Object
Dedicated to the poet Ernests Birznieks-Upītis, Pastariņa Museum is located in Zentene parish, easily accessible. Pastariņš is a character from Upītis' book, his childhood nickname. The poet was born and raised in the Bisnieki house.
The museum is spacious and showcases a residential building, a barn, a shed, a sauna, a granary, and other buildings. In the garden, there is a model of the farm, reflecting the appearance of the estate during the poet's childhood.
Each building houses corresponding exhibitions: "Northern Kurzeme rural estate - Pastariņa's world", "Barn - a mirror of family wealth", "Freshwater fishing", "Pastariņš at home, school, and in life", "Water in the rural estate". It is possible to learn about the Birznieks family and their lifestyle, the poet's life and literary works. The museum exhibits originals, including items that once belonged to the writer, such as a writing desk with a chair and an inkwell.
The museum offers an attractive way to explore the exhibition, making it exciting for children and students. Games and activities are used in the programs (for example, an orientation game) to introduce stories, traditional crafts, and culinary heritage, including baking bread in a real bread oven. This museum is great for a family excursion.
Newlyweds are also invited to visit the museum, where they are offered to perform various Latvian rituals for a happy married life. Traditionally, the solstices are celebrated at the museum, and there are also christenings and the program "Journey through time".
Entrance to the museum is free (a fee is charged for guide services, in Latvian or a foreign language).
