Memorial plaque at the ancestral home of actor Solomon Mihoels Add an Object
Mihoels was born in Daugavpils (then Dvinsk) in 1890, in the patriarchal Jewish Vovsi family on Postojalaja Street, which is now named after the world-famous actor. The boy was named Šloimi. In 1905, the Vovsi family moved to Riga. Šloimi had a great interest in acting. During one of the acting classes, after playing the role of King Lear, Šloimi announced that one day he would play this role on the big stage. These words came true. In 1935, he played King Lear and became world-famous.
